There are a set of variables we would like for you to consider when selecting your coffee and obtaining the optimum extraction at home.
Roast Date
Make sure that you get an amount of coffee sufficient to last you one to two weeks. We have found that a standard amount for one week is 12 ounces. This is why we sell our coffee beans in 12 oz bags.
Fresh roasted coffee will manifest itself wonderfully in the cup.
Brewing Method
You should select the coffee brewing method that provides the best result for you, whether it is a French Press, an Auto Drip coffee machine, a Melitta Cone or Stove-top Espresso.
The Grind
Ideally, you should grind your coffee before you brew it. Grinding takes a major toll on coffee beans, causing them to stale much quicker than normal.
Make sure to grind your coffee to the level required by your brewing method of choice.
Amount of Coffee
The amount of coffee you use will be determined by how weak or strong you prefer to drink coffee. However, in general we recommend a ratio of 0.25 oz of coffee to 6-8 oz of water. Just like in baking, measuring the amount of coffee you use by weight will give a better result than measuring it by volume. Nonetheless, 0.25 oz of coffee should be equivalent to two tablespoons.
Water
Water quality and temperature are critical to achieving optimum flavor. Unless you can effectively control the TDS of your water, filtered water should be sufficient.
The temperature of the water should fall in the range of 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit. Although, do make sure that you are not using boiling water.
